Spanish energy giant Iberdrola has announced the appointment of Prof. Paul Simshauser as the new incoming chief executive officer (CEO) of Iberdrola Australia. He will assume the responsibility from the current Chairman and CEO Ross Rolfe at the end of 2025.  

Rolfe is stepping down as the CEO, but will continue to serve as the chairman of the Iberdrola Australia Board. He is also the chair of the Clean Energy Council (CEC).  

The company board credits Rolfe with having invested billions of dollars in wind, solar, and battery storage projects across South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland. Its current operating capacity stands at 1.89 GW with another 622 MW under construction.

Iberdrola Australia’s incoming CEO, Simshauser, was previously the CEO of Powerlink Queensland and also a Professor of Economics at the Centre for Applied Energy Economics and Policy Research (CAEEPR). 

He also worked as the executive general manager -Energy Markets at Infigen Energy, which was later acquired by Iberdrola Australia. Overall, his experience across Australia’s energy markets, regulatory bodies, and public policy institutions spans over 25 years. 

“I am delighted that Paul will lead the next chapter of Iberdrola’s journey in Australia. He is a highly respected industry leader with deep expertise in the Australian energy system,” said Rolfe.
