Spain-headquartered energy giant Iberdrola has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to manage its Iberdrola Mexico business. Katya Somohano Silva takes over this position from the company's long-term senior resource Enrique Alba who has been called back to Spain for a position of responsibility.

Iberdrola claims it has a solid portfolio of renewable energy projects, distributed in several states of Mexico. According to its website, in Mexico Iberdrola Renewables Mexico operates 1.233 GW of operational capacity, comprising 643 MW solar PV and 590 MW wind energy capacity.

Silva will execute the company's renewable growth plan in the country in her new position.

"Iberdrola México begins a new phase in the country with the objective of supporting the industry in its decarbonization and emissions reduction goals. We want to grow hand in hand with our clients and suppliers, betting on national content, the creation of quality jobs and win-win in the communities where we have a presence," said Silva.

For 10 years, the group's Mexican operations were led by Alba, who has been working with the Spanish group for several decades in various positions of responsibility, in Spain and Mexico.
