Indian solar EPC Gensol Engineering Limited, part of the Gensol Group, has announced the appointment of Shilpa Urhekar as the company's new chief executive officer (CEO) for Solar EPC (India). She is tasked with strengthening the company's solar EPC business in India.

Urhekar moves to Gensol from Sterling and Wilson Renewable Energy Ltd (SWREL) where she served as the country head (India) till now. She is credited with successfully bidding and executing 6 GW of renewable energy projects during her term with SWREL, achieving positive bottom-line growth.

She previously also worked with brands such as Welspun Group, leading its distributed solar energy business, and US-based Green Brilliance for its production and business development. Urhekar worked with the Indian Air Force as a squadron leader for 11 years before moving to the private sector in 2008.

Welcoming Urhekar as the company's 1st 'lady CEO,' Gensol Engineering's Managing Director Anmol Singh Jaggi said, "Leveraging her leadership acumen, hands-on market knowledge, and a strong track record of implementation with deep focus on customer centricity will cement our position as a frontrunner in India's Renewable Energy landscape."

In her new role, Urhekar replaces Ali Imran Naqvi who, the management says, has been nominated for a role to oversee the growth of Gensol Engineering and its subsidiaries.

Gensol Engineering recently appointed Kapil K Nirmal as the CEO of the company's Middle East Solar EPC business (see Indian Solar EPC Group Strengthens International Leadership).
