The Norway-based floating solar PV company Ocean Sun has announced the departure of its Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Børge Bjørneklett. He has been replaced by the company's Director for North-East Asia, Kristian Tørvold.
With Ocean Sun for last 5 years, Tørvold has over 14 years of experience in entrepreneurship, financial management and business development. He has extensively worked in the Asian nations of South Korea, China and Singapore.
"Looking forward, the Board of Directors believe no-one is better positioned than Kristian Tørvold to lead the company in scaling up," said the board. "His understanding of the important Asian market, combined with his varied skills in operations and business development, make him very well qualified for leading Ocean Sun."
No specific reason was given for Bjørneklett's departure. The Board of Directors thanked him for his role in building the company and as the inventor of all its patents.
In a LinkedIn post, Tørvold said he is excited for his next adventure after 'a bit of garden leave.'
Ocean Sun has developed and patented a thin hydroelastic membrane technology to float its customized solar panels. It operates as a technology provider, offering license agreements to developers and independent power producers (IPP) globally.
In January 2024, it commissioned a 275 kW offshore demonstrator project in Spain as the 'largest' ocean-based floating solar system in Europe (see Ocean Sun Commissions EU-Backed Offshore PV Project).
