Indian solar power developer ACME Group has brought on board Harish Kapoor as the Group President-Corporate Affairs. Kapoor joins ACME after having worked with the Essar Group, Loop Mobile, Tata Teleservices, Bharti Airtel, among others.
ACME has a current portfolio of over 1.6 GW, and it plans to have 7,500 MW of solar power capacity by 2019. The company has been very successful in the Indian solar space – and very aggressive in project pricing and expansion. Last year most of the projects it won averaged around $0.07 per kWh (see Karnataka 1 GW Tender & More and NTPC Telangana Winners and NTPC Solar Tender Results). This also led to straining of its relations with former partners EDF from France and EREN from Luxembourg (see EDF & ACME Call Off Partnership).
Kapoor will be responsible for further strengthening company's position in the solar industry. His experience and network are supposed to be a large asset. An official release from ACME stated, "He holds excellent relationship with Corporate Houses and with Central & State Governments both at working and at decision making levels."
