India-based Tata Power has appointed a new CEO and managing director from within its ranks. Praveer Sinha is now set to replace outgoing CEO Anil Sardana as of May 1. Sardana handed in his notice in January for personal reasons (see Tata Power CEO Resigns).
Sinha is currently the CEO and managing director of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (Tata Power-DDL). The joint venture between Tata Power and the government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi is an electricity distribution utility catering to more than 7 million people in north and northwest Delhi.
Sinha's appointment comes as the new Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran is reported to be restructuring the entire group.
Sinha has over 3 decades of experience in the power sector and is credited with setting up of greenfield and brownfield power plants in India and abroad. "Praveer's extensive experience in the power sector and his ability to drive performance, maximise returns and work seamlessly with stakeholders will be very valuable for Tata Power as it looks to strengthen and expand its position in fast-evolving energy market," said Chandrasekaran.
