Peter Fath will become the new CEO of Wärtsilä Energy Storage after the company’s planned JV with RCT is established
Fath’s career spans more than three decades across solar, storage and manufacturing
The appointment follows Wärtsilä’s plan to form a 50/50 venture with RCT Solutions
Wärtsilä Energy Storage has announced the appointment of Prof. Dr. Peter Fath to lead the business, ahead of the company’s planned joint venture with RCT Solutions. Fath is the Founder and CEO of Germany-headquartered RCT Solutions Gmbh.
Operating as part of Finland-based technology group Wärtsilä, Wärtsilä Energy Storage announced plans to establish a 50:50 JV with RCT in June 2026. Once the planned joint venture is established, Fath will take on the role of CEO (see Wärtsilä, RCT Form Energy Storage Joint Venture).
An industry veteran, Fath brings more than 30 years of experience across solar, energy storage and manufacturing domains. His background includes commercializing technologies, scaling global operations and developing automated factory solutions.
In a statement shared by the company, Fath said he was joining the energy storage business at a ‘transformative stage’ and pointed to opportunities ahead as well as the team already in place. He stated, “There is a strong foundation to build upon, significant opportunities ahead, and an exceptional team in place.”
The JV deal is expected to close in Q3 2026. According to the management, the JV is likely to record losses in 2026 owing to a number of factors including write-downs of capitalized R&D. It is anticipated to generate positive results by late 2027.
With this JV, RCT Solutions will strengthen its position in the battery energy storage systems (BESS) business, gaining access to Wärtsilä’s energy storage technology and international customer base. Its existing solar PV engineering and technology business will continue to operate as usual.
Earlier this year, speaking at the TaiyangNews Solar Technology Conference India (STCI 2026) at New Delhi, Fath discussed his perspectives on India’s rapid solar PV industrial transformation with TaiyangNews Managing Director Michael Schmela (see Peter Fath on the Future of Indian Solar Manufacturing | STCI 2026).
