  • Greenzo Energy has entered a MoU with Nepal’s Api Power to set up 50 MW green hydrogen and green ammonia capacity
  • Api is offering its existing hydro and solar power sites for the Indian company to establish this capacity till 2025
  • It estimates an investment worth INR 10 billion on realizing this 50 MW which is to generate 4,000 tons of green hydrogen annually

Indian renewable energy company Greenzo Energy Pvt Ltd will set up 50 MW of green hydrogen and green ammonia by 2025 for Nepal’s Api Power Company Ltd, utilizing the latter’s hydro and solar power plants.

Under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed, Greenzo said it will establish this capacity using PEM technology based electrolyzers at Api’s existing hydro and solar plant sites. The MoU signed on July 18, 2022 will remain in effect till all of 50 MW is online.

It is expected to generate 4,000 tons of green hydrogen annually when run for ‘2100-2500 hours of excess electricity supply’, stated Greenzo.

To start with, they will work on a 1 MW project to be stationed at 8.5 MW Naugarh Gad Hydroelectric Project. Overall, Api expects an investment worth INR 10 billion ($125 million) to realize entire 50 MW capacity.

In a company statement reported by India’s Press Trust of India (PTI) news agency, Api’s Managing Director Sanjeev Neupane said, “Nepal is rich in hydropower with 20,000 MW of projects under development and the seasonal nature of resources from the vast network of rivers necessitates hydrogen storage.”

In June 2022, Greenzo had said it plans to set up a 250 MW green hydrogen electrolyzer factory by 2025 and touted projects of up to 1.5 GW in hand.
