Government backed Northern Territory based energy retailer, Jacana Energy has entered into an off-take agreement for a 25 MW solar power project. It is being developed by Katherine Solar Pty Ltd, a joint venture between Australian renewable energy company Epuron and utility scale solar power developer Island Green Power.

Katherine Solar says the project will be the 'largest renewable energy generator in the Northern Territory', and it will help the government meet its target of having 50% renewables in the electricity mix by 2030.

The power purchase agreement (PPA) was signed after the government officially approved the project to be developed near Katherine, Darwin in Northern Territory. It will be developed with AU$40 million ($28.3 million) investment and will create more than 100 jobs during construction.

Epuron owns and operates solar power stations in the region at Alice Springs, Yulara, Kalkarindji, Ti Tree and Lake Nash/Alpurrurulam.
