Recently, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev attended the inauguration of the 100 MW Gobustan Solar Power Plant. Developed by Universal Energy and equipped with Sungrow’s SG320HX-20 string inverters, the newly commissioned plant supports the expansion of solar power generation in Azerbaijan.

According to Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, the plant is expected to generate approximately 200 million kWh of electricity annually, saving around 45 million cubic metres of natural gas and reducing annual carbon emissions by approximately 97,000 tonnes. The plant will support Azerbaijan’s efforts to diversify its energy mix and expand renewable electricity generation.

Azerbaijan is expanding renewable energy development through regulatory reforms and investment from local and international partners. The Ministry of Energy estimates the country’s economically viable solar energy potential at 23 GW and outlines plans to implement more than 2 GW of green energy projects by 2027. Against this backdrop, Gobustan adds operational solar capacity as Azerbaijan develops its renewable energy resources.

The Gobustan project builds on Sungrow’s cooperation with Universal Energy in Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. With its inverter solutions installed in PV projects totalling 330 MW in Azerbaijan, Sungrow has established a strong presence in the country’s solar market. The company remains committed to working with partners to expand renewable energy deployment and support Azerbaijan’s energy transition.
