For businesses, managing energy is as important as securing it. High electricity prices, growing power demand and rising solar adoption are pushing commercial and industrial users to look beyond conventional grid supply and find more flexible ways to generate, store and use electricity.
According to Frost and Sullivan, the cumulative installed capacity of Global C&I battery energy storage systems (BESS) is expected to reach 122.97 GW by 2035, with a CAGR of 20.1%[1]. This growth is driven by rising electricity demand, high network and transmission costs, falling technology costs, growing value of grid flexibility, and attractive rooftop solar returns.
Solar adoption is adding another dimension to the challenge. PV generation does not always align with demand, meaning surplus power may be exported or curtailed while businesses still purchase electricity during higher-priced periods.
C&I energy storage can bridge this gap by shifting electricity supply across time. Batteries store power when solar generation is high or prices are low, then discharge when demand or prices rise. Combined with intelligent energy management, storage can increase self-consumption, reduce peak grid purchases and optimize energy use.
C&I Energy Storage in Action
Hoymiles’ HoyUltra 261A fully liquid cooling battery storage system is built to meet diverse C&I energy needs. It offers up to 88.4% AC round-trip efficiency and full-capacity operation at up to 50°C.
Commercial properties
In Vietnam, an Aloha supermarket uses MIT microinverters and HoyUltra 261A storage for zero-export and peak shaving, while a Slovenian shopping and office center deployed four HoyUltra 261A units in one day. The latter reduced footprint by up to 35% thanks to the compact design.
Manufacturing
In Malaysia, Hoymiles and local EPC partner PLUS XNERGY supplied energy storage for Richwise Sdn. Bhd., a gypsum processing plant with monthly electricity bills of nearly RM 200,000. After adding solar, the plant saves around RM 40,000 per month, with storage cutting maximum demand charges by up to another RM 20,000.
Agriculture
In the Netherlands, a modern farm combines 200 kW of rooftop PV with two HoyUltra 261A. The solution addresses frequent grid outage, volatile electricity prices and extreme winter temperatures, supporting uninterrupted power for high-load equipment like refrigeration system.
Civil service
In Estonia, an airport energy storage project features 12 HoyUltra 261A battery units with a grid-connected capacity of 1.5 MW/3.132 MWh. All batteries have passed commissioning and full-power testing and are now operating normally.
