The grid-connection ceremony for Phase I of the 1GW photovoltaic project at the Northern Laos Interconnected Clean Energy Base, developed by China General Nuclear Power Group, was recently held in Vientiane, Laos. As the country’s first large-scale mountainous PV project, DAS Solar secured a 400MW supply contract and has completed delivery.

Developed in partnership with CGN Energy Technology (Laos) Co., Ltd. and China Energy Engineering Group Yunnan Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., the project is located in Oudomxay Province, covering Muang Xay and Namor districts. With a total planned capacity of 1GW, it is expected to generate approximately 1.65 billion kWh annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by around 1.3 million tonnes, delivering strong environmental and economic benefits.

DAS Solar supplied 580W N-type modules, which play a central role in ensuring high-efficiency generation. Built on N-type TOPCon technology, the modules achieve efficiencies exceeding 23.8% and deliver over 20W higher output than conventional products. With bifaciality above 80%, they maximize energy yield by capturing both direct and reflected sunlight, making full use of Laos’s strong solar resources.

Engineered for the region’s mountainous terrain and hot, humid climate, the modules offer high reliability and environmental resilience. Their N-type bifacial cell structure reduces internal stress and microcrack risk, while a multi-busbar design enhances structural stability under extreme conditions such as strong winds. Superior resistance to moisture, aging, and PID ensures long-term performance in tropical environments. In addition, the modules demonstrate low degradation and strong performance under low irradiance, maintaining higher output even in high-temperature conditions. Their lower levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) further improves project returns, combining efficiency with long-term economic value.

Beyond technology, the project carries significant strategic importance. It helps strengthen power supply in northern Laos, supports the transition toward a cleaner energy mix, and contributes to the country’s ambition to become a regional energy hub. At the same time, it creates local employment opportunities and supports the development of clean energy expertise.

By leveraging cross-border power interconnection, the project also enables a new model of energy cooperation, linking generation, transmission, and regional consumption. Clean electricity generated in Laos can be transmitted to neighboring markets, improving resource allocation and supporting regional energy security. As a flagship clean energy project under international cooperation frameworks, it demonstrates the integration of advanced PV technology, infrastructure development, and regional collaboration.

Looking ahead, DAS Solar will continue to drive innovation in N-type technologies and deliver high-efficiency, reliable solutions to support the global transition toward a low-carbon energy future.
