Recently, Gokin Solar modules successfully passed the HW4 hail resistance test conducted by the SPF Institut für Solartechnik. The successful results demonstrate their long-term reliability in withstanding harsh environmental challenges.
Truly Reliable – Withstanding the Toughest Tests
Throughout the decades-long operational lifespan of solar farms, extreme weather remains a critical factor affecting system safety and revenue. Among these risks, hail is one of the common environmental risks, placing greater demands on the structural safety and performance stability of modules.
The HW4 hail resistance test conducted on Gokin Solar modules is an important test in PV module reliability testing, designed to evaluate a modules' impact resistance under extreme hail conditions. The test was conducted by the SPF Institut für Solartechnik.
This institute is affiliated with Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences (OST) and has extensive expertise in the research, development, and testing of renewable energy technologies.
During the test, 40 mm-diameter ice balls struck the module surface at a speed of 27.7 m/s (approximately 100 km/h), simulating the severe environmental challenges that modules may face under extreme hail conditions.
Under high-intensity impact, Gokin modules were required to maintain their structural integrity and satisfy all subsequent performance evaluation criteria. After the ice ball impact, the SPF Institut für Solartechnik conducted multiple tests on the modules, including insulation performance, wet leakage current, power output, and electroluminescence (EL) imaging, to comprehensively evaluate the safety, performance stability, and internal structural condition of the modules before and after the impact.
Ultimately, Gokin modules successfully passed all tests, maintaining good performance and structural stability after the high-intensity impact, demonstrating excellent environmental adaptability and reliability.
True Value – Serving Diverse Scenarios
The ultimate challenges in the laboratory are meant to better address the real-world challenges at project sites. Passing the HW4 hail resistance test further validates the reliable performance of Gokin modules in complex environments.
Currently, Gokin modules have been applied in diverse scenarios, including residential, industrial and commercial, and large-scale ground-mounted solar farms, serving the energy needs of different regions. Gokin Solar's modules deliver reliable performance across both distributed PV systems and utility-scale solar projects. Their reliability helps customers achieve long-term value through their stable performance.
Going forward, Gokin Solar will continue to drive innovation in module technology and quality enhancement, building safe, reliable, and high-value photovoltaic products to stringent standards, while providing stronger support for the global green energy development.
