Konstanz, Germany – March 2026 – ISC Konstanz has been commissioned by Munich Re to conduct technical audits of solar cell manufacturing facilities worldwide. The audits focus particularly on large-scale production lines for high-efficiency n-type technologies such as TOPCon.

As photovoltaic technologies rapidly transition from development to gigawatt-scale mass production, ensuring consistent product quality and long-term reliability has become increasingly important for project developers, investors, and insurers. Independent assessments of manufacturing processes therefore play a key role in reducing technological and financial risks.

ISC Konstanz performs detailed on-site audits of solar cell production facilities based on international best practices for manufacturing as well as relevant quality standards, including ISO 9001 and IEC 61215. Particular emphasis is placed on evaluating manufacturing stability, process control, and measures that ensure the long-term reliability of solar cells.

The resulting audit reports serve two purposes: they provide manufacturers with structured feedback on potential areas for improvement in their production processes, while also offering Munich Re an independent technical assessment of manufacturing quality and associated risks.

Munich Re, one of the world’s leading reinsurers, offers photovoltaic warranty insurance to reduce risks for investors and developers of solar power plants. As PV technologies evolve rapidly, the company has strengthened its technical due-diligence processes and collaborates with research institutes and quality assurance organizations to better assess emerging reliability risks in new solar technologies.

“Stringently controlled manufacturing processes are essential for ensuring the long-term performance of solar cells and modules deployed in power plants worldwide,” said Jan Lossen, senior project leader from ISC Konstanz. “Through our audits, we help identify strengths and improvement potential in production lines and contribute to improving quality standards across the photovoltaic industry.”

ISC Konstanz supports manufacturers, investors and insurers with independent manufacturing audits and reliability assessments to reduce technology risks in large-scale photovoltaic production.
