Europe’s battery storage market is entering a new phase of expansion. The European Union added 27.1 GWh of battery storage capacity in 2025, marking its 12th consecutive annual installation record, while cumulative solar PV capacity reached approximately 406 GW. As the region’s solar fleet grows and businesses place greater emphasis on electricity costs, renewable energy self-consumption and power supply resilience, demand for behind-the-meter storage is broadening.

Against this backdrop, JA ESS has brought a commercial and industrial battery energy storage project online in the United Kingdom. The project serves a local clean energy company whose activities span solar PV, energy storage and EV charging.

In addition to supporting the customer’s own energy management needs, the installation will serve as an operational reference site for demonstrating integrated solar, storage and charging applications to end users. Its operation will also provide local experience for future deployments across a wider range of commercial and industrial settings.

JA ESS has continued to expand its project portfolio across Europe. Since the beginning of the second quarter, C&I storage projects in Lithuania, Poland, the Netherlands, Austria, Croatia and Germany have entered operation. The installations cover a diverse range of applications, including manufacturing and industrial processing, logistics, commercial facilities and energy services.

These deployments reflect a broader shift in the European C&I storage market. Battery systems are increasingly being used not only for conventional peak shaving, but also to increase solar self-consumption, manage demand charges, provide backup power and coordinate multiple onsite energy assets. Operating projects across different markets also provides practical insights into system performance under varying grid conditions, load profiles and commercial models.

On the product side, JA ESS presented two C&I storage systems at Intersolar Europe 2026 in June. JAPlanet Fusion is a DC-coupled hybrid C&I BESS designed for new-build solar-plus-storage installations and applications requiring high levels of solar self-consumption. JAPlanet 2.0 is an all-in-one C&I BESS developed for applications including peak shaving, demand management and backup power.
