JA Energy Storage has delivered a 5MW/10MWh battery energy storage system to a project site in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, with commissioning expected to begin shortly.

The project is based on lithium iron phosphate battery technology and uses liquid-cooled thermal management with a containerized battery system design. The system integrates battery units, a battery management system (BMS), fire protection systems, liquid-cooling equipment and auxiliary systems to support safe, reliable and efficient deployment.

The project is configured with two energy storage subsystems, each with a capacity of 2.5MW/5.015MWh. Each subsystem consists of a power conversion and step-up integration unit and a battery storage container. The power conversion and step-up integration unit includes a 2500kW energy storage converter and a 2650kVA step-up transformer, with the converter matched one-to-one with the battery container and a rated charge/discharge rate of 0.5C. Each battery system comprises 12 battery modules integrated into the prefabricated battery container. These modules are connected in parallel via a DC combiner and linked to the DC side of the energy storage converter, forming a stable and efficient system architecture.

Following commissioning, the project will help smooth renewable energy output, improve renewable energy utilization and provide grid services including peak shaving and frequency regulation. JA Energy Storage said the delivery marks another step in its deployment of energy storage systems for municipal and public-utility applications.
