Recently, Jinko ESS, a leading global energy storage company and a subsidiary of JinkoSolar Co., Ltd., participated in the latest round of Battery Passport pilots launched by the Global Battery Alliance (GBA).
The Global Battery Alliance (GBA) is an independent, multistakeholder organization bringing together companies across the battery value chain, governments, international organizations, civil society and other stakeholders to advance responsible, sustainable and resilient battery value chains. Its flagship Battery Passport program is developing a globally applicable framework for sustainability reporting, independent verification and, ultimately, product-level certification, enabling credible and comparable assessment of batteries against environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria. By combining supply chain transparency with independently verified sustainability performance, the GBA Battery Passport aims to provide purchasers and other stakeholders with trusted information, while supporting regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvement across the industry.
For this pilot, Jinko ESS drew on an actual 5 MWh energy storage product and its associated supply chain, tracing information from the system level through battery cells and materials to upstream mineral sources. Independent third-party verification was incorporated to enhance the completeness, credibility and verifiability of ESG data. To date, only four consortia have publicly disclosed results from this round of pilots, with Jinko ESS among them.
Lucia Dólera, Head of Business Development for Southern Europe and ESG Lead for Battery Energy Storage Systems at Jinko ESS, said: "As Jinko ESS continues to expand across the European energy storage market, our participation in the Global Battery Alliance has been of great value to us. The Battery Passport initiative and its collaborative framework have helped us address the growing demand for transparency and traceability across the battery value chain, and have reinforced our commitment to sustainability and circularity. We recognize and support the GBA's mission, and look forward to continuing this partnership as we grow our presence in Europe."
Through this pilot, Jinko ESS has gained practical experience in supply chain traceability, ESG disclosure and third-party verification, supporting its preparations to meet the relevant requirements of the EU Batteries Regulation.
