Konstanz 17. October 2024 – RCT Power, a leading provider of integrated solutions for inverters and energy storage, has crossed the magic threshold of 10GWh of total delivered storage capacity in August 2024. Now, global technology group Wärtsilä has announced an expanded supply agreement as it celebrated the delivery of RCT Power's 6,000th Quantum energy storage system during an official ceremony at RCT Power's manufacturing facility.

It was just in August that RCT Power celebrated a successful milestone in the history of the company: With the delivery of another 50 storage systems for commercial and industrial applications of the class CESS 200 to the USA, the magic threshold of 10 GWh of RCT Power storage systems has been exceeded. This means that there are now enough RCT Power battery storage systems in operation worldwide to power more than 1 million homes for one day. At the same time, the second largest order in the company's history was celebrated. A total of 2.1 GWh of GESS class battery storage systems (grid connected) have been ordered for various large projects in Australia.

But that's not the end of it: RCT Power growth continues at a rapid pace. In October this year, to mark the delivery of the 6,000 Quantum energy storage unit, Wärtsilä and RCT Power announced their increased cooperation at an official ceremony at RCT Power's production facility. In celebration of the delivery of the 6,000 Quantum energy storage unit, Wärtsilä and RCT Power announced their enhanced co-operation at an official ceremony at RCT Power's production facility. Andrew Tang, Wärtsilä Energy's Vice-President, Energy Storage and Optimisation, said at the ceremony: "Wärtsilä is proud to work with RCT to provide advanced energy storage solutions for a safer and more resilient grid”. RCT’s quality-first mindset delivers exceptional energy storage hardware and further strengthens Wärtsilä’s reputation as a globally recognized energy storage integrator that puts safety and quality first.

Wärtsilä is a leading global provider of innovative technologies and lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets, based in Finland. Wärtsilä's successful record includes 79 GW of power plant capacity and more than 125 energy storage systems in 180 countries worldwide. Wärtsilä and RCT Power have been working closely together since 2019. RCT Power strengthens Wärtsilä's contract portfolio for energy storage projects around the world. The contract extension deepens the partnership and enables Wärtsilä to offer significant benefits to its customers by diversifying the supply chain for energy storage products. This is a critical component in enabling effective risk management and optimising the cost of the entire supply chain. “Wärtsilä is continuously exploring new supply chain diversification plans to best serve our customers’ evolving needs. This strategic move not only enhances our operational efficiency but also delivers cost savings to our customers,” says Rauni Jaskari, Director of Supply Management, Energy Storage & Optimisation at Wärtsilä Energy.

RCT Power is excellently positioned in the storage market

In addition to the commercial and industrial storage systems (CESS class) and large storage systems for grid connection (GESS class), RCT Power is known in Europe for outstanding storage technology in the residential and small commercial power class from 4 to kilowatts and a storage capacity of 4 to 200 kWh. RCT Power systems have earned an excellent reputation in this market segment as the test winner of the “Storage Inspection” carried out by HTW Berlin every year since 2020. The focus here is on the exceptional efficiency of the systems, which is determined in this test in real operation. How much electricity is converted from solar power by the system, stored and then efficiently fed into the household grid when the electricity is needed in the house. Over the entire year, the RCT Power systems work so efficiently that only 3.6% total losses occur. This makes the test-winning system more than three times as efficient as other systems on the market and not only saves electricity from the grid, but also up to EUR 200 more per year than other systems.

Company has clear growth target

As the first provider of integrated system solutions for inverters and storage systems, the company distinguishes itself from competitors who usually only manufacture individual product components. RCT Power plans to further expand this position.

At the same time, the company is in the process of developing new business areas and markets. The first projects with large-scale storage systems for trade and industry have already been implemented in Europe. Further projects are planned for all power classes in the DACH region and in other European countries. This will further strengthen RCT Power's presence in Europe and enable it to enter growth markets. The goal by 2026 is to become one of the top 5 largest storage system manufacturers in the world as an internationally active company.

RCT Power is internationally positioned

The storage system manufacturer from Constance looks back with pride on its extraordinary success story: turnover has doubled every year. The number of employees in Germany has risen from 23 to over 50 since 2018. The company now employs more than 500 people worldwide, 80 percent of whom work in China and 20 percent in the USA, Germany, Australia and other Asian countries.

RCT Power operates its own plants and locations worldwide. The total production area is around 73,000 m² in Germany, China and Malaysia. The current production capacity is 60,000 home storage systems at the Augsburg production site and the Constance partner city Suzhou China and 25 GWh for battery storage systems. This capacity is to be expanded to 40 GWh by the end of 2025.

More than 150 patents developed

The company operates a development center in Konstanz and two in China. In total, RCT Power holds more than 150 patents, 13% of which are invention patents. Recent product innovations include commercial storage solutions (CESS), single-phase storage systems for the European home market (RESS), the RCT Power Manager, a new EMS for comprehensive control of energy storage systems, as well as Grid Energy Storage Solutions (GESS) developed in collaboration with international partners.
