Suntech SunStorage PRO STE-1ML-500P integrated liquid-cooled energy storage container is set to make its debut in the Ukrainian market, with its first shipment preparing to depart for Ukraine. The market entry comes as energy storage takes on an increasingly important role in strengthening energy resilience, while solar-storage integration offers a way to better coordinate renewable generation, energy storage and power supply flexibility.
A Growing Market for Energy Resilience
Ukraine is rapidly expanding its battery energy storage capacity as the need for energy security, reliable power supply and renewable energy integration continues to grow. According to SolarPower Europe’s European Battery Market Outlook 2026–2030, the country installed almost 3GWh of new battery energy storage systems in 2025, making it Europe’s fourth-largest battery storage market, while distributed storage accounted for more than 60% of new capacity. In 2026, the Ukrainian government also established a dedicated 100MW support quota for solar power plants combined with energy storage systems, further highlighting the growing role of energy storage in the country’s evolving power system.
Against this backdrop, the upcoming introduction of the SunStorage PRO STE-1ML-500P marks a further step in Suntech’s expansion of its energy storage business across Europe. The integrated solution is designed to support flexible power supply under different operating conditions.
Integrated Microgrid Solution
The STE-1ML-500P is a 10-foot integrated energy storage system that combines the battery system, liquid cooling system, fire protection system, STS grid-connected/off-grid switching unit, and AC combiner cabinet in a single containerized solution. Each STE-1ML-500P consists of four 125kW/261kWh outdoor energy storage cabinets and one STS cabinet. Its integrated architecture simplifies deployment while providing a compact solution for sites with different power supply requirements.
The system supports both grid-connected and off-grid operation. Equipped with an integrated static transfer switch (STS), it can switch between the two operating modes within 20ms. In the event of a grid interruption, the system can rapidly transition to off-grid operation to support critical loads and maintain power availability.
By combining grid-connected operation with fast off-grid switching, the STE-1ML-500P provides greater flexibility for sites where power continuity and energy resilience are important considerations, particularly under changing grid conditions.
Multi-Source Energy Integration
The STE-1ML-500P is designed to coordinate multiple energy sources, with interfaces for photovoltaic inverters and diesel generators. PV generation, grid power, diesel generation and battery storage can be coordinated through the system’s energy management functions according to site requirements.
This multi-source configuration allows the system to adapt to different power supply conditions and operating strategies, supporting applications including PV-plus-storage microgrids, commercial and industrial energy storage, backup power and remote or off-grid power supply.
Integrated Safety and Intelligent Management
The STE-1ML-500P adopts an independent battery-cluster management architecture, allowing individual battery clusters to be monitored and managed separately. This helps limit the impact of a fault in a single cluster and supports stable system operation.
The system integrates liquid cooling and dedicated fire suppression to help maintain appropriate battery operating conditions and enhance system safety. An Energy Management System (EMS) and cloud-based monitoring platform also provide remote access to system status, battery parameters and power data, together with system alerts and centralized operation and maintenance.
Built for long-term energy storage, the STE-1ML-500P offers 1044kWh of battery-side capacity and 500kW of rated power, with up to 936kWh of available capacity. Combined with a cycle life of at least 8000 cycles, these capabilities support reliable and sustained operation across a range of energy storage applications.
Expanding Suntech’s Energy Storage Presence
The upcoming shipment marks the first entry of the SunStorage PRO STE-1ML-500P into the Ukrainian market, representing a further step in the expansion of Suntech’s energy storage business across Europe.
As Ukraine continues to develop a more distributed, flexible and resilient energy system, Suntech will continue to expand the SunStorage portfolio and advance solar-storage integration through solutions that combine PV generation, energy storage and intelligent energy management. By enabling closer coordination between solar generation, energy storage and intelligent power management, these integrated solutions can help improve renewable energy utilization, enhance power supply flexibility and support greater energy resilience.
