Following the successful conclusion of the World Future Energy Summit (WFES) held from 13–15 January in Abu Dhabi, TrinaTracker, the tracker business unit of Trinasolar, highlighted its participation and key technology showcases, with a strong focus on the Vanguard 1P Multi-Drive Smart tracking system designed for large-scale desert solar projects.

During the event, TrinaTracker presented solutions purpose-built for the demanding conditions of the Middle East and Africa (MEA). The company’s desert-focused tracking technologies attracted strong interest from developers, EPCs, and industry stakeholders across the region.

A Unified Platform Designed for Scale and Extreme Conditions

At the core of TrinaTracker’s showcase was the Vanguard 1P single-axis tracking solution, built on a unified, modular platform architecture that enables flexible configuration across Single Drive, Dual Drive, and Multi-Drive layouts within the same structural and control framework. This platform-based design provides a scalable and consistent technical foundation, supporting projects from standard utility-scale plants to very large desert PV installations.

Within the platform:

  • Single Drive configurations, with one drive unit per row, are optimized for standard row lengths and conventional wind conditions, delivering a balanced combination of tracking accuracy, energy yield, and lifecycle reliability.

  • Dual Drive configurations position drive units at both ends of the row, significantly enhancing torsional resistance and structural stability for extended row lengths and higher wind-load conditions.

  • Multi-Drive configurations distribute multiple drive units along long-span row layouts, creating a high-redundancy, high-stiffness drive system engineered for extreme wind environments and very large-scale arrays.

Vanguard 1P Multi-Drive: Engineered for Desert Mega Projects

The Vanguard 1P Multi-Drive system presented at WFES represents the platform’s most advanced configuration for desert environments in the Middle East and Africa. It is engineered to address the combined challenges of long-span row layouts, high wind speeds, complex soil conditions, wind-blown sand, and large day–night temperature differentials.

By adopting distributed multi-drive coordinated control, the system significantly improves overall structural rigidity, torsional performance, and dynamic wind-load management. These characteristics make it particularly well suited for giga-scale desert PV projects operating under high wind exposure, uneven terrain, abrasive conditions, and long-span tracker layouts.

Smart Protection and AI-Enabled O&M

The Multi-Drive architecture enhances drivetrain stiffness and ensures stable tracking performance across long-span rows in harsh environments. Integrated Smart weather-based active protection allows the system to automatically execute scenario-specific stow strategies based on real-time sensor inputs and weather forecast data, improving plant resilience during extreme weather events.

At the operational level, TrinaTracker’s AI-enabled Smart O&M solutions support large-scale plants with remote predictive diagnostics and guided fault resolution. By identifying potential issues before they affect system performance, these tools reduce operational complexity, lower O&M costs, and improve long-term system availability and overall plant performance.

Proven Performance Across MEA Desert Projects

Utility-scale solar development in the Middle East and North Africa is largely driven by desert-based projects. TrinaTracker has established a strong presence in this segment, including the delivery of 900 MW of Vanguard 1P trackers to the Al Khushaybi PV Project—its first tracker deployment in Saudi Arabia fully aligned with local content requirements.
