Innovation has taken the center stage in the global PV industry, especially in today’s climate of overcapacity and very low prices as companies strive to differentiate from their competitors. At the world’s largest solar exhibitions – The Smarter E Europe in Munich, Germany, and SNEC in Shanghai, China – manufacturers showcased a wave of high-efficiency products and advanced technologies along the solar system value chain. From new cell architectures to refined module designs, and from production equipment to process materials, grid connection equipment with a focus on digitalization, the push toward higher performance and system electrification was evident across every corner of the value chain.

The TaiyangNews team has screened interesting new product descriptions, providing an overview on many innovations. The resulting compilation was so extensive that we have split the report into 3 parts: The current edition, New Solar Modules & Mounting Systems Overview 2025, focuses on module and mounting solutions, (while we have 2 further new product reports - one focusing on cell and module production equipment and materials, and the third on inverters and batteries, both of which will be released in October).

On the module side, manufacturers are pursuing multiple technology streams to achieve higher efficiencies. Back Contact (BC) technology continues to set the benchmark for top performance, with several companies releasing new BC modules. TOPCon remains the mainstream but is evolving into TOPCon+, while Heterojunction (HJT) advances with higher power ratings and increased bifaciality. The booths of several leading makers also featured prototype modules based on perovskite-silicon tandem technology.

Beyond the advances in cell architecture, innovation at the module level is gathering pace. Many companies are transitioning to zero-busbar (ZBB) and solder-free interconnections, adopting full-screen formats that help prevent dust build-up, and strengthening frames to improve long-term durability. At the same time, new applications are coming to the fore – from building-integrated PV and flexible, lightweight modules to Agri-PV products and low-carbon or hybrid PV-thermal panels – signaling the industry’s push toward greater sustainability and a more diversified product landscape.

The mounting and tracker segments are equally dynamic. Terrain-following trackers, passive wind-stow systems, and weather-adaptive controls to improve resilience and energy yield. Rope-based mounting solutions were also on display, offering efficient options for challenging terrains. Today’s mounting technologies have evolved into highly specialized solutions that can be adapted to virtually every roof type.

This report highlights products from 59 module manufacturers and 17 mounting and tracker suppliers showcased during Intersolar Europe and SNEC 2025.

PS: TaiyangNews also hosted a virtual conference on PV System Technology Trends – SNEC & Intersolar Product Review, which highlights key product developments from top manufacturers at these shows. The presentations can be accessed here
