Rooftop Solar Tender Launched In Myanmar
  • Myanmar is looking to install solar PV systems through a competitive bidding round for households and public facilities
  • Projects will be set up under 3 lots spread across Kayin, Ayeyarwaddy, Tanintharyi, Sagaing, Shan North and Shan East regions
  • The government will finance the project development, also by using parts of proceeds from World Bank's IDA for the NEP to make payments for contracts under the tender

The Government of Myanmar is inviting bids for the installation of solar PV systems for households and public facilities with an unspecified capacity. It plans to use part of the proceeds from the International Development Association (IDA) towards the cost of the National Electrification Project (NEP) to make payments under the contracts secured for the tender. The contracts will be jointly financed.

Scope of work for interested parties include supply, installation and maintenance of 31 solar PV systems. These plants will be installed in form of 3 lots, with Lot 1 comprising Kayin, Ayeyarwaddy and Tanintharyi regions. Lot 2 will have solar PV installations in Sagaing and Lot 3 has projects in Shan North and Shan East, according to the tender documents released by the Department of Rural Development under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation (MOALI).

Bidders may bid for one or several contracts and bidding process followed will be as per World Bank procurement guidelines.

Last date to submit bids is September 3, 2019. Detailed tender notice can be viewed on the website of MOALI.

In June 2019, Myanmar was reported to have brought online 40 MW grid connected solar PV capacity which is part of a larger 170 MW solar park in Minbu township (see 40 MW Solar PV Project Online In Myanmar).
