- As per the NIT issued by SECI, it wants to develop renewable energy projects in the union territory of Lakshadweep under its direct ownership

The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) will set up renewable energy projects in Lakshadweep, India’s smallest union territory (UT), under its direct ownership on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis. It has issued a notice inviting tender (NIT) for the deployment of these project along with a battery energy storage system (BESS), and will conduct an international competitive bidding process.
Without specifying the capacity and renewable technology it plans to use for these projects, SECI said these will be spread across 11 islands of the union territory of Lakshadweep out of the 36 it comprises. Emphasis will be on developing the projects with suitable capacity of BESS. Power generated by these facilities will be used to power the electricity supply of the inhabited islands in Lakshadweep partly or wholly through renewable energy sources.
Scope of work for interested bidders will be design, engineering, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the renewable energy projects with BESS deployment, and operation and maintenance of the plants for 10 years.
Tender documents will be published and made available for online download from January 31, 2019.
