Shell New Energies business division of global oil giant Shell has appointed a new Executive Vice President (EVP). Elisabeth Brinton has replaced Mark Gainsborough at the helm of affairs with effect from April 1, 2020. Gainsborough worked with Shell for over 14 years.

In her new role, Brinton will be responsible for the company's work in power, renewables and lower-carbon technology. Having worked in the US and Australia markets in the energy and technology space, Brinton has been with Shell since 2018 when she switched over from Australia's AGL Energy where she worked in a similar position.

Before AGL Energy, Brinton worked with US utility PG&E Corporation as the corporate strategy officer in renewables, customer solar, energy efficiency and electric mobility. She also worked with the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD).

In a LinkedIn post, Brinton wrote at length about the situation arising out of COVID-19 challenge being faced by the world and the need for clean energy. "I am grateful for the role that reliable, clean electricity is playing in the lives of many, right at this moment. From powering vital medical equipment in hospitals, to keeping data centres running, so that we can all stay connected, productive and informed," wrote Brinton. "Energy plays a vital role in our world. Shell's New Energies business gives us a huge opportunity to make it lower carbon and available to many, many more. This is worthy work. It inspires me every day."
