Utility scale solar PV project developer, SkyPower Ltd. has appointed India’s Sterling and Wilson as the EPC contractor for its 350 MW solar projects in India. The projects of 50 MW capacity each will be located in Madhya Pradesh (150 MW) and Telangana (200 MW).
SkyPower had signed four power purchase agreements (PPA) with the state of Telangana to build and operate 200 MW of solar energy projects in February. Back then it had announced that it has secured 400 MW of solar PV projects in Madhya Pradesh and Telangana (SkyPower signs PPAs in Telangana).
The company had won the capacity in solar project auctions in India. Its President and CEO Kerry Adler said, “The signing of these EPC and O&M agreements with Sterling and Wilson is an important milestone toward the timely execution of our awarded projects and fulfilment of our commitment to generating a brighter future for India through developing clean solar power.”
Speaking about the solar projects coming up in Madhya Pradesh, the state’s Principal Secretary, New and Renewable Energy Department, Manu Srivastava, said, “Almost 1,500 MW of projects have been installed in the state in 2015-16, and execution of SkyPower projects would further supplement the achievements of Madhya Pradesh in the field of renewable energy.”
Construction on the above mentioned projects is expected to start in Q3-Q4/2016.
The Canada based company is majority owned by US-based CIM Group and says it has over 30 utility scale PPAs and contracts with utilities and governments, amounting to over $80 billion worldwide. It claims to have an extensive pipeline of over 25 GW globally. Out of this, 9 GW capacity will be built in Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia in next five years.
Sterling and Wilson is part of Indian Shapoorji Pallonji Group, a mechanical, electrical and public health engineering (MEP) service provider. It has installed nearly 1 GW of solar energy projects in India and has commissioned around 150 MW in solar farms across Africa and Southeast Asia.
