- Seoul has invited applications to offer subsidies for private BIPV installations in the city
- It is offering KRW 1.5 billion to support such deployments with an aim to create a new solar technology eco system and increase clean energy supply
- Winners can win up to 80% of the installation costs through the scheme in 2 categories
The Seoul Metropolitan Government is offering KRW 1.5 billion ($1.2 million) to support private building integrated PV (BIPV) installations in 2022, as it makes efforts to create a new solar technology market ecosystem, claiming to be the 1st local government in South Korea to promote private BIPV supply projects.
Winning projects stand to secure up to 80% of the installation cost for 2 categories. Under design category, the BIPV installation should be difficult to spot with the naked eye. A maximum of up to 70% of the cost is available for this category within a range of around KRW 6 million for remodeled projects and KRW 4 million for new construction.
It defines the new technology category as referring to the type of application of domestic new materials or new technologies, and supports up to 80% according to the decision of the review committee.
This call is open to owners or prospective owners of private buildings in Seoul, both newly built or existing. Companies with a general construction and electrical construction business license are also welcome to apply and so are solar cell module manufacturing names but in collaboration with companies meeting construction requirements.
“The city of Seoul will continue to promote the supply of BIPV, which can catch two rabbits at once, ‘supply of eco-friendly energy’ and ‘improve urban aesthetics’. We will do our best to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Head of Seoul’s Green Energy Division, Lim Mi-kyung.
Launched on April 29, 2022, the last date to submit applications is June 10, 2022. Further details are available on its website.
Of the 4 projects supported since 2020 under the scheme, 3 have been completed in Gangnam-gu, Seocho-gu, and Yangcheon-gu while 1 remains under construction currently.
