Europe is seeing rapid growth in demand for commercial & industrial (C&I) energy storage systems (ESS) for both front- and behind-the-meter (FTM or BTM) applications. This is primarily driven by energy security and negative electricity tariffs. 

To tap the growing market, E3/DC, a German C&I ESS maker, showcased its latest qntm series cabinet-based standalone product at Intersolar Europe 2026.  

Measuring 1,020 × 2,300 × 1,470 mm (W × H × D), the ESS comprises lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) based battery packs with a cumulative storage capacity of 261 kWh. This energy is then discharged to the grid via a built-in 125 kW bidirectional power conversion system (PCS), thereby making an AC-coupled 125 kW/261 kWh ESS platform. In terms of efficiency, the inverter has a maximum conversion efficiency of 98.6%. The system capacity can be scaled to 625 kW/1,305 kWh by connecting 5 units in parallel, meeting rising demands of C&I consumers. In operation, this system can perform cost-optimized BTM functions, while generating passive revenue through FTM services. 

In terms of thermal management, its operational temperature is controlled by a circulating liquid. Given the criticality of fire incidents in a C&I environment, the cabinet and battery pack feature sensors that automatically detect smoke, gas, and temperature, helping mitigate fires at an early stage. In case of failure of these safety barriers, its built-in aerosol tube bursts and suppresses fire propagation within a short period. 

This company offers a 10-year warranty on this product, while its batteries have a lifespan of up to 10,000 cycles. The company expects to launch this product commercially by Autumn 2026.
