Key Takeaways
  • Enphase’s IQ battery helps Australian prosumers participate in Evergen’s VPP platform, which supports more than 65 programs across 8 countries

  • This enables the country’s prosumers to generate additional revenue while contributing to grid stability, albeit passively

  • This residential ESS is also eligible for a rebate of up to 30% on capital expenditure during installation under federal policy

Power conversion solutions provider Enphase Energy, Inc. has announced the integration of its IQ Battery systems with Evergen’s distributed energy management and virtual power plant (VPP) platform in Australia.

This battery is a residential storage system, developed to integrate with Enphase’s microinverter-based platforms, enabling homeowners to maximize solar harvesting, backup power, and energy optimization.

A VPP is an aggregation of multiple distributed energy sources, such as residential PV, an energy storage system (ESS), and smart energy devices on a single digital platform. Instead of physical presence, these sources act as a single power plant, albeit virtually. These residential ESSs can charge or discharge in response to wholesale electricity market signals or grid demand, providing aggregators (utilities and retailers) with greater flexibility than conventional VPP alternatives. Hence, it helps support grid stability amid the increasing penetration of volatile renewable energy sources.

Evergen’s platform supports more than 65 VPP programs across 8 countries. Alongside this integration, the country continues to expand support for residential battery adoption through federal and state-level incentives. The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides rebates of up to 30% on the upfront CapEx in installing an eligible residential storage system. The company notes that the latest integration with the Evergen VPP platform could further open revenue streams for Australian prosumers by participating in grid ancillary services.

Marco Krapels, senior vice president of global energy markets and chief marketing officer at Enphase Energy, also reflected this revenue potential. He said, “By pairing the federal battery rebate with state incentives, retailer programs, and optimization platforms like Evergen, we can help accelerate battery adoption and deliver a better energy experience for our customers.”
