Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German energy storage provider INTILION to supply 3 GWh of its TENER energy storage systems (ESS). The five-year deal will support grid-scale and commercial energy projects in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. Designed for cold climates, CATL says its TENER systems offer over 15,000 charge cycles over a 25-year operational lifespan. The two companies plan to expand their partnership to take both lithium-ion and sodium-ion technologies to broader European markets.
Dutch energy storage developer and operator GIGA Storage has secured €260 million in debt financing for its BESS project in Lower Saxony, Germany. The 350 MW/1.4 GWh Albatross Project is financed by seven international banks. It is expected to enter construction in early 2027 and enter operation in early 2029. Albatross is GIGA Storage’s first project in Germany. It will connect directly to the high-voltage grid operated by transmission system operator Amprion. China’s CATL will handle the project’s EPC and O&M. With Albatross, alongside the 300 MW Leopard project in the Netherlands and 700 MW Green Turtle in Belgium, GIGA Storage says it has approximately 1.4 GW/5.6 GWh of energy storage capacity under construction across the three countries. The company aims to exceed 2 GW of operational capacity by 2030.
South Korean battery manufacturer LG Energy Solution has signed a non-binding MoU with renewable energy company Energix-Renewable Energies. The companies will explore the potential supply of 2 GWh of LG’s BESS solutions to Energix for deployment across Europe and the US over the next 24 months. The proposed supply comprises 1.5 GWh for Europe and 0.5 GWh for the US. The companies will also discuss expanding the total volume to 4.5 GWh, including 3 GWh in Europe and 1.5 GWh in North America.
Switzerland-based battery energy storage developer and operator Delta Capacity has reached financial close on two standalone BESS projects in Finland. The projects include the 125 MW/300 MWh Karppio BESS in Teuva, developed with Strioga Family Foundation, and the 125 MW/300 MWh AKKU One project in Lapinlahti, developed with COVENERGO, a renewable energy company. Société Générale is providing long-term financing for both projects, with Finnvera providing a counter-guarantee for one of the financing facilities. Sungrow and Centrica Energy have signed key supply and offtake contracts, respectively. Construction on site is underway, with commercial operations targeted for Q4 2027. Once operational, the projects will support grid balancing, frequency regulation, and renewable energy integration in Finland, according to Delta.
