Godawari Power Gets Clearance for 20 GWh BESS

Godawari New Energy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Indian iron and steel producer Godawari Power and Ispat Limited (GPIL), will build a 20 GWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The company said it has received environmental clearance for an industrial building to house the 20 GWh project at AURIC Bidkin Industrial Area in Maharashtra. The clearance was granted by Maharashtra’s State Expert Appraisal Committee-3 (SEAC-3) under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. Godawari Power has not shared any other details about the planned project in District Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (formerly Aurangabad). Godawari Power separately announced it will set up a wholly-owned subsidiary, Godawari Energy Solutions Private Limited, in Maharashtra as an EPC company for BESS, renewable energy, power, electricals, and allied infrastructure projects.

Grenergy Secures Financing for 446 MW Solar, 1.8 GWh BESS

Spanish clean energy company Grenergy has secured $457 million for a portfolio of projects in Chile. The portfolio comprises 446 MW of solar and 1.8 GWh of BESS capacity. Grenergy says this is its largest non-recourse financing raised to date. The transaction covers Algarrobal, the fifth phase of Grenergy’s Oasis de Atacama platform, with 242 MW of solar capacity and approximately 1.48 GWh of storage, as well as the Palmas cluster of 21 distributed solar projects, totaling 204 MW of solar capacity and 289 MWh of storage. Arranged and underwritten by BNP Paribas, the financing also involves BBVA, JPMorgan Chase, MUFG Bank, Santander, and The Bank of Nova Scotia. Algarrobal is backed by a 12-year hybrid power purchase agreement (PPA) scheduled to begin on January 1, 2028. Six Palmas projects are being retrofitted with five-hour battery storage systems. All projects are operational, it said. Following the transaction, Grenergy’s non-recourse financing secured in Chile has exceeded $2.4 billion.

SMA

SMA Battery Inverter Meets Germany’s New Grid Rules

German solar inverter and energy storage systems (ESS) producer SMA Solar Technology says it has secured the first certification under Germany’s VDE FNN guideline for grid-forming capabilities, including the provision of inertia. The certification applies to its Sunny Central Storage UP-S battery inverter platform and confirms compliance with Version 2.1 of the guideline. The framework sets technical and verification requirements for grid-forming units and plants participating in Germany’s emerging inertia market. According to SMA, the certification could help battery energy storage project developers access new revenue streams from inertia and other grid stability services.

Northland

Northland Power Advances 1.36 GWh Battery Storage Portfolio

Canadian independent power producer (IPP) Northland Power closed approximately PLN 500 million in project financing for two BESS projects in Poland, totaling 300 MW/1.2 GWh. The Mieczysławów project has a capacity of 200 MW/800 MWh, while Kamionka is rated at 100 MW/400 MWh. Both projects are under construction, with commercial operations expected in 2028. Their revenues will be supported partly by 17-year inflation-indexed capacity auction agreements, alongside opportunities from energy arbitrage and ancillary services.

Separately, Northland Power commissioned its 80 MW/160 MWh Jurassic battery storage facility in Alberta, Canada, describing it as the province’s largest battery storage project. The facility was completed ahead of schedule and under budget. It is backed by a 15-year offtake agreement, covering 100% of its capacity.

Sungrow Powers BESS Projects in Two Asian Markets

China-headquartered Sungrow has announced the commissioning of a 10 MW/40 MWh BESS project in Sri Lanka and completed grid connection and acceptance testing for a 108.4 MW/215.6 MWh BESS in Cambodia. In Sri Lanka, the project was developed for WKV Hydro Technics (Pvt) Ltd. in Galle. It uses Sungrow’s PowerTitan 2.0 solution, and is designed to support peak shaving, frequency regulation, and renewable energy integration. The project is located about 500 meters from the sea and operates in a hot, humid, corrosive environment.

In Cambodia, the Cambodia EDC Kandal Stueng station (GS79) project is located in Takmao, Kandal Province. Its grid-forming technology supports black-start capability, grid stability, and coordination with hydropower and thermal generation. During testing, the system energized approximately 240 km of transmission lines and five substations, supported the startup of a 60 MW hydropower plant and operated independently for 3.5 hours.

MaxSolar, e2m Sign Seven-Year Solar-Storage PPA

German renewable energy project developer MaxSolar and EDF Group’s trading company energy2market (e2m) have signed a seven-year hybrid PPA. This covers a 45 MW solar park and a 20 MW/40 MWh BESS in Waren, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Germany. Both the companies describe the agreement as Germany’s first hybrid PPA to guarantee minimum revenue for battery storage through a floor-price structure. It allows the operator to receive a share of revenues from battery optimization while ensuring a contractually agreed minimum payment. The solar park began operating in summer 2026, while the battery storage facility is scheduled to enter operation in September 2027. Both assets will share a grid connection and be managed through multi-market optimization, including day-ahead, intraday, and balancing energy markets.

European Energy Adds BESS to Lithuanian Solar Park

Denmark’s European Energy has opened its first BESS project in the Baltic states at its renewable energy park in Anykščiai, Lithuania. The 25 MW/65 MWh battery system is co-located with the company’s 78.5 MW solar park. The battery was connected to Lithuania’s electricity transmission grid in spring 2026. European Energy said the project is expected to generate around 80,000 MWh of renewable electricity annually.
