Key Takeaways
  • Hinen’s N3300S off-grid inverter and B2560 battery, when paired together, become useful for residential and small commercial applications during grid outages

  • For higher power uses, the company will showcase its latest H12000 series hybrid inverter that supports B1600 series battery units

  • Both inverters are designed to be compatible with a DG set

At the upcoming Solar & Storage Live Africa 2026, Hinen, a solar-plus-storage solutions maker, is set to introduce 2 new products, targeting South Africa’s small and medium-scale prosumers, often equipped with a diesel generator (DG) for emergency backup.

The company’s N3300S series off-grid inverter, coupled with the B2560 series batteries (supports LFP or lead-acid), is aimed at residential and small commercial applications that require limited power (1-phase) during grid outages. Unlike the grid-interactive string or hybrid inverter that delivers power (AC) in on- or off-grid mode, this inverter only activates within 10 ms of the latter scenario. The inverter harvests the solar insolation, whether it be for battery charging or direct feed-in of load (AC), via a 60 A MPPT channel, typically part of a built-in solar charger. The product is rated at up to 3 kW, which is sufficient for essential loads like small household appliances. The company states that the inverter’s embedded energy management system prioritizes between grid and solar energy sources to charge a 2.56 kWh battery unit in real time, maximizing solar harvesting. For example, it will prefer solar energy during day time. On the scalability side, it supports up to 6 battery units in parallel, scaling the capacity (charging/discharging) to up to 15 kWh. It also supports integration with DG set to allow the system to operate in hybrid solar-generator configurations.

The H12000S series Hybrid Inverter, paired with the B16000 series battery, is a higher-capacity hybrid configuration. This inverter comprises 3 MPPT channels, allowing the connection of multiple PV strings under varying irradiance conditions, to provide a maximum power output of 12 kW. It is designed for up to 150% oversizing (DC/AC) with respect to the rated AC capacity, supporting a PV input of up to 18 kW. The accompanying battery has an initial capacity of 16 kWh and can be expanded by adding up to 6 units for a total capacity of up to 96 kWh. Unlike the former modular battery expansion model within a single inverter configuration, it allows both battery scaling and parallelization of up to 6 inverters, enabling larger power installations. Its battery system also supports peak currents of up to 240 A (charging/discharging), making it suitable for equipment with higher startup current, such as pumps, air-conditioning units, or workshop machinery. Similar to the off-grid inverter, it is compatible with DG sets, but provides additional power during extended outages.
