Key Takeaways
  • Huawei’s SUN2000-506KTL series string inverter, with an output line voltage of up to 1,000 V, can deliver lower load current compared to its predecessor for the same plant capacity

  • It features a ‘vapor-liquid’ based cooling mechanism

  • The inverter is also capable of forming its own local grid in the absence of a grid source, which is called grid-forming technology

Huawei Technologies, a power conversion system provider, has been named a finalist for The smarter E AWARD 2026 under the photovoltaics category for its 506 kW string inverter, SUN2000-506KTL

The key highlight of this 3-phase product’s specifications is an AC side (output) voltage of up to 1,000 V (line-to-line) and 577.4 V (phase-to-neutral) from traditional 800 V (line-to-line) and 461.9 V (phase voltage), respectively.

According to the company, this higher voltage reduces the full-load output current of the 506 kW full-load rated AC power. This results in fewer cables and a lower inverter operating temperature; however, these gains were not quantified in the press release. This inverter is equipped with 6 MPPT channels, each capable of handling up to 105 A DC. It has a DC-to-AC conversion efficiency of up to 99.10%. Besides, it features a cooling mechanism that runs on a circulating ‘vapor-liquid’ medium, though the company did not share any additional details about it. From an operational perspective, this inverter can form its own voltage and frequency in the absence of the grid source and contribute to grid ancillary services or form a microgrid.
