Key Takeaways
  • Ingeteam displayed its latest utility battery inverter, INGECON SUN STORAGE M, at Intersolar Europe 2026

  • This inverter combines up to 4 bidirectional inverters and boasts a storage and discharging capacity of up to 4.540 MW

  • The company also showcased its medium-voltage (MV) full-SKID-based platform, PowerStation FSK M

Spain-based PV plus energy storage system (ESS) provider Ingeteam showcased its latest containerized modular battery inverter, INGECON SUN STORAGE M, for utility-scale applications in both grid-following and grid-forming configurations.

In a conventional integrated battery energy storage system (BESS), an intermediate bidirectional power conversion system (PCS) is used to transfer energy to and from the grid. Unlike this traditional system architecture, the displayed product combines up to 4 bidirectional power units, with a rated capacity of 1.14 MVA each, into a container. The company calls it a battery inverter that has a rated conversion capacity of up to 4.540 MW. According to the product datasheet, the inverter supports up to 20 DC input channels or battery inputs, while each power unit carries 5 inputs. It supports up to 1,500 V DC input for both off- and on-grid operations. It is also rated to absorb or deliver up to 4.5 MW of power at a current of 3,800 A and an output voltage of 690 V (3-phase). For an independent battery rack-based storage system, modular power units work separately with individual racks. In contrast, these power units work in parallel with a BESS system that has a single output terminal.

On the operational front, it helps with flexible integration of renewable power into the grid through power firming, ramp limits, curtailment, and microgrid formation. In terms of grid support, the inverter can provide ancillary services, including frequency regulation and black start, among others. It is also capable of performing peak shaving, valley filling, and price arbitrage.

This product was officially launched in June 2026.

Also on display was the company’s medium-voltage (MV) full-SKID-based platform, PowerStation FSK M, which combines 2 battery inverters with a common MV and auxiliary transformer, along with switchgear. As a result, the total capacity reaches 9.1 MW.
