Key Takeaways
  • NeoVolta Power has secured 9 GWh of LFP cell supply from SK On through 2031

  • A broader arrangement could add another 9 GWh and make SK On a customer for NeoVolta-made storage packs

  • NeoVolta expects the collaboration to support the expansion of its Georgia facility to two production lines

NeoVolta Power, the US-based energy storage firm, has lined up to 18 GWh of battery cell supply and battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing activity with SK On. The deal will support the expansion of its energy storage operations in Georgia.

Under a five-year agreement, NeoVolta will procure 9 GWh of US-manufactured lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells from South Korea-headquartered SK On from 2027 through 2031. The supply will support production expansion at NeoVolta Power’s facility in Pendergrass, Georgia.

Earlier this year, NeoVolta formed a joint venture with PotisEdge and LONGi to manufacture BESS products in the US with an initial annual manufacturing capacity of 2 GWh in Georgia (see NeoVolta Launches US BESS Manufacturing Joint Venture).

Both NeoVolta and SK On have also established a framework for an additional 9 GWh of LFP cell supply during the same period. Under that arrangement, NeoVolta Power would manufacture energy storage packs that SK On would purchase.

Together, the two arrangements could support up to 18 GWh of combined activity between the companies.

“This collaboration represents an important milestone in NeoVolta’s expansion into large-scale energy storage and the continued buildout of our U.S. manufacturing platform,” said Ardes Johnson, CEO of NeoVolta.

He said the initial agreement would provide long-term access to US-manufactured LFP cells for the Pendergrass expansion, while the wider collaboration would allow NeoVolta Power to manufacture energy storage packs for SK On.

NeoVolta intends its Pendergrass facility to produce BESS products for commercial, industrial, and utility-scale applications. NeoVolta Power said the initial production line remains on track to move through commissioning and production ramp-up activities.

The US company is evaluating additional production capacity at the site, including a second production line designed around pouch-format LFP cells. It expects the broader collaboration with SK On to support a two-line manufacturing platform targeting up to 8 GWh of annual BESS production capacity in 2028.

Under the signed agreement, SK On will serve as the primary cell supplier for NeoVolta Power’s LFP pouch-cell-based BESS products.

“This partnership strengthens SK On’s position in the U.S. BESS market and brings together SK On’s U.S.-made LFP battery technology with NeoVolta Power’s growing energy storage manufacturing capabilities,” said Daejin Choi, head of ESS business at SK On.
