Key Takeaways
  • Sungrow’s full ESS portfolio has been assessed by TÜV Rheinland according to the European Union Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542

  • This assessment covers battery safety, performance, durability, labeling, traceability, lifecycle information, state of health (SOH), and hazardous substances

  • This regulation also mandates that certain battery categories need to complete their conformity assessment to be eligible for commercialization in the EU

PV plus energy storage systems (ESS) provider, Sungrow, has announced that its full portfolio has completed conformity assessment under the European Union Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. TÜV Rheinland, as a Notified Body (NB No. 1008), completed these assessments.

According to the company, the EU battery regulation is regarded as one of the comprehensive regulatory frameworks introduced globally. Starting from battery manufacturing and operation to repurposing and recycling, it covers the entire lifecycle. This regulation, which is being implemented in phases, mandates that certain battery categories be conformity assessed by a notified body before commercialization in the EU.

Against this backdrop, Sungrow’s PowerTitanPowerStack, and PowerKeeper series ESS, covering utility, commercial & industrial (C&I), and residential applications, respectively, were assessed. The company states that TÜV Rheinland has established evaluation methodologies in line with the technical provisions under the current implementation phase. Sungrow’s ESS portfolio complied with the conformity assessment procedure under Module D1, which includes quality management system auditing and ongoing compliance surveillance. These reportedly focused on battery safety, performance, durability, labeling, traceability, lifecycle information, state of health (SOH), and hazardous substances.

Emphasizing the importance of the regulation, Sungrow expects its influence to extend beyond Europe, with Bowen Dong, General Manager of PV & ES product Services at TÜV Rheinland Greater China, calling it ‘a valuable reference for the industry’.
