In January 2019, US based flexible solar cell company MiaSole Hi-Tech and European Solliance Solar Research reported 21.5% power conversion efficiency for a perovskite and flexible CIGS tandem cell (see 21.5% Efficiency For Flexible Tandem Cell).

ECN says to achieve the ‘equivalent’ efficiency level of 30.2%, the bifacial tandem device used a 4-terminal configuration, having separate circuits for the top and bottom cells that allow for ‘dynamic finetuning and optimization of the energy yield’.

Belgium based research and innovation institute Imec has achieved a conversion efficiency of 23.03% on the latest generation of large-area monofacial screen-printed rear-emitter nPERT cells.
