Key Takeaways
  • AIKO announced the commercialization of the 24.6% efficiency ABC solar module series

  • Its Comet 2U modules with 665 W output are currently installed in the first commercial and residential projects in China

  • The manufacturer emphasized the potential of the technology to increase the efficiency to 24.8%

China-headquartered solar PV manufacturer AIKO Solar announced it has officially started delivering its new all back contact (ABC) solar modules with 24.6% conversion efficiency.

AIKO said that this industry-leading module efficiency ‘further solidifies’ its 20-month streak as the industry leader on TaiyangNews’ Top Solar Modules Listing of the world’s highest efficiency commercial solar modules. Notably, AIKO has been on the top of this list for close to a year now, having upped its module efficiency from 24% to 24.2% in May 2024 (see TOP SOLAR MODULES Listing – October 2024).

TaiyangNews is now checking if the new record modules comply with its methodology to be included in the table.

The company’s advanced Comet 2U 665W solar modules with 24.6% efficiency are installed in China’s residential and commercial applications in Tianjin and Shandong regions, it says.

According to the product datasheet on the company website, these Comet 2U mono-glass modules use 144 n-type ABC cells with 3.2 mm tempered glass. It weighs around 28.2 kg and measures 2,382 mm x 1,134 mm x 33 mm. It comes with a temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C. It claims that for the same area, the power generation of these modules is 7% higher than TOPCon and 15% higher than PERC.

The datasheet also displays the best module efficiency of 24.8% corresponding to a power rating of 670 W for this product series, emphasizing the future optimization potential of the company’s technology.

The BOS cost/W is 4.76% lower than TOPCon and 11.11% lower than PERC, it adds. For the 1st year, the degradation is ≤1%, and ≤0.35%/year in the following years.

Earlier this year in February 2024, AIKO reported achieving 25.15% conversion efficiency for its ABC panels, beating its own previous industry high of 24.27% (see Aiko Solar Announces New World Record Efficiency).
