Key Takeaways
  • AlphaESS promoted its BESS for continuous operation of up to 125-kW C&I loads during grid disturbances or failures

  • It also highlighted another BESS model for up to 50 kW C&I loads

  • Both can be upscaled according to the evolving demands of C&I consumers

During RE+ 2025, the well-known energy storage solution (ESS) provider AlphaESS presented its offerings focusing on the US’s commercial & industrial (C&I) consumers.

For medium-scale C&I consumers, the company displayed its STORION-TB125 3-phase battery energy storage system (BESS). It integrates power conversion system (PCS), energy management system (EMS), battery management system (BMS), and battery stacks in a pre-assembled enclosure. The company characterizes it as an ‘All-in-One' solution. Equipped with 5 lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery packs, each with up to 52.12 kWh of storage capacity, it can charge or discharge a maximum of 261.2 kWh of energy. However, the company states that by sharing a larger cabinet, its capacity can be extended to up to 522.4 kWh. Compatible with AC-coupled ESS configuration, which combines PV, diesel generator (DG), electric vehicle (EV) charger, and the grid, this system delivers up to a 125 kW 3-phase output to C&I loads. According to the company, the liquid-cooling mechanism of each battery module ensures that the cell-to-cell temperature delta remains below 3%. Additionally, it balances each battery’s state of charge (SOC) in real-time. Through quality control of temperature differences and balancing of charge, the battery's lifespan can be extended by more than 10%. The company adds that, when paired with an external static transfer switch (STS), this solution can be switched to off-grid mode in less than 20 ms to support uninterrupted C&I operations by isolating from unstable or congested grid supply.

AlphaESS also exhibited another ‘All-in-One' BESS solution – STORION-H30/H50-G3 – at the event. This product is targeted at small-scale C&I consumers, commercial complexes, and farms. Each cabinet, featuring 314 Ah cell-based battery stacks, can store or discharge up to 241 kWh of energy, while the maximum AC output can be 30 kW or 50 kW.

Both systems can be scaled up to meet future demands from end users. The STORION-TB125's capacity can be expanded to 6.25 MW of power and 13 MWh of storage by paralleling 50 units. On the other hand, the STORION-H30/H50-G3 can only be upscaled to a maximum of 500 kW of power and 2.4 MWh of storage capacity.

The commercialization details of these exhibits are not yet publicly available.
