BYD introduced its latest Battery-Box HVB system at the event
This new storage solution is based on blade-type battery cell technology
One unit can be expanded to up to 29.69 kWh of energy storage capacity by stacking up to 10 battery packs
BYD, a leading global supplier of rechargeable batteries, unveiled its latest Battery-Box HVB, featuring a blade battery format, at Intersolar Europe 2025. Yassin Mahioui, Manager Central Europe at BYD, presented the new battery system during a brief conversation with the TaiyangNews team at the company’s booth.
Addressing the growing demand for residential energy storage systems, HVB uses 51.2 V DC blade-type battery cells, each with a capacity of 2.97 kWh. 2 units can be connected in parallel within a stacked configuration to store up to 5.94 kWh. By stacking up to 10 modules, the system scales to a maximum storage capacity of 29.69 kWh, with an output voltage of up to 512 V. Designed for high-capacity hybrid storage applications, it can deliver a continuous output current of up to 50 A. To meet short-duration overcurrent demands during grid failures or off-grid operation, the system can supply up to 90 A for 15 seconds, Mahioui added. Notably, the storage system is compatible with multiple hybrid configurations, including On-Grid, On-Grid + Backup, and Off-Grid modes.
With its blade-cell architecture, the HVB system boasts enhanced mechanical stability and thermal performance. It achieves significant gains in energy density compared to its predecessor, with gravimetric energy density increasing by 49.9% to 108.8 Wh/kg and volumetric energy density improving by 139.7% to 162.88 Wh/L.
Measuring 1,327 × 610 × 282 mm (H × W × D), a 10-module stack can be parallelly connected with up to 3 identical units, providing a total storage capacity of up to 89.07 kWh. The company backs the product with a warranty of up to 15 years.
