Key Takeaways
  • Heckert has introduced its APOLLON series shingled PV module for Europe’s residential and C&I applications

  • The company claims the shingled matrix technology yields additional power compared to traditional shingled layout during partial shading conditions

  • Replacing toxic Pb and PFAS with ECA during cell interconnection makes the module environment-friendly

Germany-based PV module maker Heckert Solar GmbH has launched its latest shingled TOPCon module, APOLLON 2.0, targeting Europe’s residential and commercial & industrial (C&I) applications.

Among the product’s key features are the company’s shingle matrix technology for cell layout and interconnection, originally developed by Fraunhofer ISE. This module uses 390 small cell strips. These cells are then overlaid with electrically conductive adhesive (ECA) along the long edges, rather than using conventional ribbon-based soldering. The company states that it adopts a matrix shingled-cell layout, in which each of the serially interconnected rows contains parallel-interconnected solar cells instead of forming parallel strings. Based on this technology, the layout yields a module power output range of 450 W to 460 W at a maximum efficiency of 23%.

According to the company, this matrix technology extracts additional current compared to traditional shingled design during partial shading. It can be attributed to the serial and parallel interconnection of solar cells, which allows current to bypass the shaded area.

The use of ECA, which doesn’t contain toxic lead (Pb) or PFAS, for cell interconnection aids in sustainability. It also uses a lower processing temperature, typically during the lamination stage, with respect to the solder-based stringing process. In addition to production, the company’s transparent local supply chain is aligned with European standards.

This module, equipped with 2 mm dual glass, has dimensions of 1,762 × 1,134 × 30 mm. It carries a product as well as a performance warranty of up to 30 years.
