Key Takeaways
  • Hoymiles introduced its latest C&I ESS, HoyUltra 2, during the show

  • The company also showcased its new bidirectional PCS, HPCS2500, designed for utility applications

  • While the former’s highlights are about conversion efficiency and safety architecture, the latter offers resilience to grid instability and installation space efficiency

Hoymiles, a manufacturer of PV inverters and storage solutions, showcased its latest products at Renewable Energy India (REI) Expo 2025.

For commercial & industrial (C&I) prosumers, the company presented its latest energy storage system (ESS), HoyUltra 2, during the show. Without providing many technical details of the ESS, the company emphasizes conversion efficiency and safety architecture as its key features.

With a round-trip efficiency of up to 90.3%, the company says the ESS converts and recovers more of the energy it stores than standard counterparts. This results in better overall utilization and higher economic value from each charge/discharge cycle. According to the company, the ESS’s operational temperature is controlled up to 50°C by a circulating liquid without derating. Its IP55-rated enclosure also ensures long-term durability under hazardous C&I installations. The ESS features a low operational noise of 60 dB. In terms of safety, the company adopts a ‘comprehensive’ safety architecture that includes 6 types of protection mechanisms, covering 3 levels of the system. However, the company’s press release didn’t discuss these mechanisms.

Also on display was the company’s new utility-scale power conversion system (PCS), HPCS2500.

This product pairs with a BESS in a footprint of less than 1.5 m², saving installation space compared to standard peers. In addition, the company states that its rated bidirectional conversion efficiency (charging/discharging) of more than 99% in a smaller space provides higher power density.

With its grid-forming capability, the PCS independently establishes and regulates voltage and frequency, allowing the ESS to operate reliably even in weak grid conditions. The company claims that this feature ensures system stability even in a grid with a short-circuit ratio (SCR) of 1.0 at the point of interconnection. SCR is the ratio between the short-circuit capacity of the grid at the connection point and the rated power of the inverter or plant. It measures the strength of the connected grid: how stiff or stable the grid voltage is when a new PV inverter or ESS is connected. High SCR means a strong grid that maintains the grid’s voltage stability, while low SCR indicates a weak grid that is prone to voltage flickers, instability, or oscillations.

Hoymiles has forged partnerships with Sun Solista, Impulse, and Pearl Energy, establishing a distribution and service network across India. It is expected to enhance accessibility and customer support for the company. Commercialization details for these products are unknown at the time of publishing this article.
