Heterojunction (HJT) solar PV manufacturer from China Huasun has launched a new solar module with G10 configuration of 182mm wafer sized cells, different from M10, and uses microcrystalline thin-film layer on both sides, replacing the doped amorphous silicon films completely from the HJT cell structure, and claiming it to be the 1st HJT product of 3rd generation.
Compared to doped amorphous silicon films, which are typically used in standard HJT structure, microcrystalline doped films have very low absorption losses. On top, doped microcrystalline films also exhibit superior conductivity, all of which leads to a better efficiency.
A point to be noted here is that the replacement is only referring to doped layers, meaning, the HJT structure still consists of very thin intrinsic amorphous silicon film sandwiching the wafer due to its superior passivation attributes. The industry has characterized the replacement of doped amorphous silicon films with doped microcrystalline films on front side as HJT 2.0.
Now what Huansun has attained has led the industry into HJT 3.0 by replacing the doped amorphous silicon layers with doped microcrystalline silicon on both sides.
Huasun's latest module series has yet another novel feature related to the wafer size. The industry analogy for wafer shapes has been that 'G' stands for full square and 'M' stands for pseudo square. Huasun's module is built with G10 cell format, however, the wafer does not seem to be a full square, but 'small chamfer', according to the company.
All these ingredients and processes boost the effective power generation area of the cell by more than 0.5%, raising the cell power by up to 1% per piece, it adds.
Huasun's Himalaya G10 HJT solar modules are made with 108 cell configuration lending a maximum power of 450W, as the company claims it to be 40W higher than similar modules in the market. These are suitable for residential rooftop projects, whereas G10-144 module can go up to 600W reaching a maximum efficiency of 23.23% making these fit for commercial rooftops and utility projects.
"Sealed with PIB and integrated with light conversion film, Himalaya G10 series HJT solar modules have better water resistance, stronger air impermeability and higher ultraviolet radiation resistance, which can further improve module reliability, reduce power degradation, and guarantee the industry-leading 15-year product warranty and 30-year linear performance warranty," the manufacturer adds.
Huasun's Himalaya series already has M6 and G12 versions. For the latter TÜV SÜD recently certified the manufacturer's claim of a power output of 723.97W (see Huasun Record Power Rating Of 724W For HJT Modules).
With the launch of G10 modules, Huasun says it has completed the layout of the entire product family under its Himalaya series. Going forward, it will keep exploring n-type HJT technology to bring out higher efficiency and higher yield products in the future.
