A pioneer of heterojunction technology (HJT), China’s Huasun Energy exhibited its latest HJT product offerings at the recently-held SNEC 2024 exhibition in Shanghai, China. The company’s booth reflected its recent technological progress at both cell and module levels. The HJT maker mainly promoted its maiden utility-scale HJT module with 0BB metallization technology and showcased a proof-of-concept Perovskite-HJT tandem cell.

0BB HJT Module

At the event, the brand-new Himalaya G12-132 (0BB) HJT moduleboasting a power output of up to 750.54 W and 24.16% efficiency, showed the successful implementation of Huasun’s busbarless (0BB) metallization technology. Configured with 132 pieces of G12 half-cut HJT cells, the module has dimensions of 2384 x 1303 x 33 mm. The company also offers a 15-year warranty on the product and a 30-year linear performance warranty.

At the recently concluded TaiyangNews Solar Power Plant Developments Virtual Conference 2024, Huasun’s director of business development Europe, Christian Comes explained that in 0BB technology the soldering ribbon is glued on top of the cell instead of soldering on specific points, leading to thinner fingers, reduced silver consumption, improved reliability, and scope for thinner wafer utilization even below 100 µm. He further added that busbarless metallization on the TOPCon cell structure would take longer to materialize due to its inherent drawback of copper metal particle ingress inside the cell’s bulk substrate (see Huasun’s presentation here).

During the event, the company reiterated the advantages of 0BB metallization technology that help achieve costs on par with TOPCon. The company also said that while 0BB has been implemented on a mass production scale, it has not been done at a 100% level. Huasun is optimistic about upgrading all the lines with 0BB metallization technology by the end of 2024.

HJT-Tandem Cell

In parallel, Huasun also showcased its sample Perovskite-HJT tandem cell as an example of its research & development (R&D) progress in the non-silicon ultra-high efficiency cell technology route. The company said that a sample module based on this Perovskite-HJT tandem cell will be ready by the end of this year. The HJT module maker expects to start mass production of this tandem cell-based module in the next 2 years post completion of requisite testing and certification.

At the TaiyangNews virtual conference, Solar Power Plant Developments 2024, Christian Comes explained the advantages of a perovskite-tandem cell based on the HJT platform compared to a perovskite-silicon tandem cell. Huasun expects to come up with a sample perovskite-HJT tandem module by 2025 and subsequent mass production by 2026, added Comes (see Huasun’s presentation here).

Apart from the abovementioned new products, the company also introduced multiple new technologies with innovative features. Huasun’s entire HJT product range can now be customized with its latest anti-dust feature, which enhances its capability in application-specific product offerings. The anti-dust features work in 2 different design concepts—Prevention and Discharge, says the company. In the Prevention concept, the module comes in a full-screen design. The Discharge concept uses a perforation solution to enhance the module’s anti-dust and dust discharge performance. In addition to its modules with anti-dust properties, Huasun also showcased new distributed residential products, such as PV tiles and balcony systems.
