Jolywood Displays Latest Offerings At SNEC 2024

Chinese Backsheet & Module Maker Showcases Transparent Meshed & Reflective Black Backsheet, Latest Windproof Module

Jolywood, a well-known name in photovoltaic (PV) backsheet making and active in 4 different business verticals—PV new materials, n-type cells, modules, and applications—showcased its latest product offerings at SNEC 2024 in Shanghai. Speaking to TaiyangNews at the event, Jolywood highlighted the different types of backsheets and the bifacial single-glass windproof series n-TOPCon module.

Backsheet offerings

White-meshed-backsheet

The company introduced its 3-layered white-transparent-meshed-backsheet series—FFC JW30(plus) and FFC JW30M(plus). The backsheet, with an FFC-based inner (EVA side) and outer layer (air side) laminated between a thin PET layer, is offered in both white and black meshed versions, said Jolywood. The white meshed version has a thickness of 335 µm and the black version 325 µm, both offering a transparency of more than 93%. The company says the 2 models can be a perfect match in the bifacial glass-backsheet module configuration. Alongside a 93% transmittance in the translucent region, the reflective region of the meshed backsheet offers a reflectivity of more than 70%, which can further boost module power generation, added the company. According to the technical datasheet, the transparent meshed backsheet can gain an additional 1.63% of power compared to the standard bifacial dual-glass version. The lightweight backsheet also contributes to reducing the overall weight of the module by 17% to 20% compared to a glass-glass module.

On the other hand, Jolywood’s meshed transparent backsheet’s durability and reliability can be attributed to multiple quality metrics—tensile strength, heat shrinkage rate, interlayer bonding strength, and water vapor transmission rate (WVTR). Its high tensile strength of 120 N/mm2 in both the module direction (MD) and the traverse direction (TD) achieves durability in high external environmental stress conditions. The lower heat shrinkage rate of less than 0.6% and high adhesion strength of more than 60 N/mm2 between the backsheet and EVA or POE layer indicate higher reliability against the risk of module delamination due to prolonged environmental stresses. A WVTR of less than 2 g/m2d shows the module’s higher resilience against humidity ingress. The latest model also passed strict 500 kW/m2 UV test and DH 2000 damp-heat (DH) test, noted the company.

High reflectivity black backsheet

Apart from the white-meshed backsheet, Jolywood showcased the FFC-JW3010(plus) series high reflectivity black backsheet applicable to aesthetically superior residential modules. The backsheet, with 310 µm thickness and 1.5 kV maximum system voltage, is black in color on the EVA side and white on the air side. According to the company’s latest technical datasheet, this product possesses high tensile strength, lower heat shrinkage rate, and enhanced adhesion strength with EVA. It has a high reflectivity rate of more than 75% in visible light wavelengths of 780 nm to 1,100 nm.

Modules

Jolywood also displayed its J-TOPCon module incorporating a transparent mesh backsheet in a framed configuration. The JW Pro series (JW-HT144N) framed module, called JW windproof, is a culmination of Jolywood’s transparent meshed backsheet coupled with 144 pieces of J-TOPCon half-cell matrix. This model, with dimensions of 2,278 x 1,134 x 29 mm, boasts a power output of up to 600 W and an efficiency of 23.2%. Its technical datasheet says the special frame design with a special elastic cavity possesses 50% higher strength and ensures higher safety against extreme weather conditions and resilience to ammonia gas and salt fog, enhancing the module’s reliability. This module comes with a 12-year product warranty and a 30-year linear performance warranty.
