  • LONGi has set a new world record for silicon solar cell efficiency at 27.3% in lab conditions, certified by ISFH
  • The company marks the achievement as its 17th solar cell efficiency record since April 2021
  • LONGi also launched its latest HBC module series called Hi-MO 9, featuring 2nd generation HPBC technology and advanced TaiRay wafer.

LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., the world's largest integrated PV manufacturer from China, has announced a new certified world record for silicon solar cell efficiency, achieving a remarkable 27.30% under laboratory conditions. This achievement was highlighted during a celebratory event held in Madrid, Spain, on May 7, where LONGi also unveiled its latest product, the Hi-MO 9.

The record-breaking performance was achieved using LONGi's newly designed silicon heterojunction back-contact (HBC) solar cell architecture. This breakthrough, certified by Germany's Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH), marks its 17th record in solar cell efficiency since April 2021, claims LONGi. Indeed, the company created history by achieving 26.81% for its HJT cell in November 2022, when it broke an over 5-year-long world record set by Japan's Kaneka in 2017 with an efficiency of 26.7%.

The event, attended by LONGi's founder and president Li Zhenguo, Vice President Dennis She, Chief Scientist Xu Xixiang, and various global clients, also served as a platform to demonstrate LONGi's continued leadership in crystalline silicon photovoltaics. The company emphasizes that it holds the dual distinction of setting world records for both crystalline silicon solar cells and crystalline silicon-perovskite tandem solar cells, the latter achieving a new record efficiency of 33.9% in November 2023.LONGi also used the stage to unveil its brand new Hi-MO 9 module series. This new module, regarded as "flagship" can deliver up to 660 W of power and features the 2nd generation Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) solar cell technology and the TaiRay wafer, introduced in March 2024. The TaiRay wafer, based on a very innovative crystal growth process called TCZ, is aimed to improve wafer quality, especially to narrow down the distribution of wafer resistivity, thereby enhancing the efficiency at the same time, helps to reduce the costs. Yichun Wang, product research and development director at LONGi presented the details of the technology at the TaiyangNews Cell & Module Production Equipment & Processing Materials Conference. Integrating 2nd generation HPBC technology and TaiRay wafer the Hi-MO 9 achieves a module conversion efficiency of up to 24.43%. The module is designed to perform well in diverse environments, including humid, mountains, and deserts.

Vice President She emphasized the superior performance and reliability of the Hi-MO 9, stating, "Our new Hi-MO 9 module allows world-leading power generation and outmatches other technologies on the market in an equal land-use scenario. It retains this performance throughout its life, offering plant owners the most efficient use of their land and the highest value from sunlight."

The new panels will be produced at LONGi's Jiaxing Production Base, recognized by the World Economic Forum as a Global Lighthouse Factory. This accolade is awarded to factories at the forefront of adopting Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies, further underscoring LONGi's role as a trailblazer in the solar energy industry.
