Key Takeaways
  • LONGi's Jiaxing and Chuzhou facilities are the first module manufacturing sites to receive Gold-level certification under SSI's Supply Chain Traceability Standard

  • The certification covers systems to trace a portion of polysilicon materials from quartz mines to finished modules

  • Both sites now hold certifications under SSI's ESG and Supply Chain Traceability standards

Leading solar manufacturer LONGi Solar’s manufacturing sites in Jiaxing and Chuzhou, China, have received Gold-level certification under the Solar Stewardship Initiative’s (SSI) Supply Chain Traceability (SCT) Standard.

The certifications follow independent third-party assessments by Kiwa recognizing the ability to trace a portion of the polysilicon materials through the supply chain, from the originating quartz mines to the finished solar modules. The company claims these two facilities – LONGi Solar Technology (Jiaxing) Co., Ltd. and LONGi Solar Technology (Chuzhou) Co., Ltd. – are the first module manufacturing sites to achieve Gold certification under the SCT Standard.

The SCT Standard is intended to improve transparency across the solar PV supply chain by establishing how and where materials used in solar products originate. Published by SSI in December 2024, it complements the initiative’s ESG Standard, which evaluates individual manufacturing sites across three areas: governance and business ethics, environmental performance, and human and labor rights.

While the ESG Standard assesses the sustainability performance of an individual manufacturing site, the SCT Standard focuses on tracing materials through successive stages of the supply chain. It establishes requirements for traceability systems, including the segregation of certified and non-certified materials and the documentation of material flows. Its longer-term objective is to enable an unbroken chain of custody, providing a documented record of the physical and legal possession of materials as they move between suppliers and manufacturers.

The latest certifications also build on its existing SSI credentials, says LONGi. Its Chuzhou site previously achieved Gold certification under the SSI ESG Standard, while the Jiaxing facility received Silver certification. With the new SCT certifications, both sites now hold certifications under the two SSI standards.
