One of the world's largest solar companies, LONGi made heads turn at Intersolar as the company chose the event to announce 33.5% power conversion efficiency for its perovskite-silicon tandem (PST) solar cell calling it the world's 2nd highest efficiency record, based on commercial CZ silicon wafers.

It is an increase of 1.7% from 31.8% it announced less than a month back during the 16th International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Conference & Exhibition (SNEC) in Shanghai, China.

Now it has announced the 33.5% efficiency certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) at Intersolar Europe 2023 at Munich, Germany.

The company said it continues to see improvement with 'successive breakthroughs in key technologies' including textured silicon substrates, effective bulk passivation and light management. It said there is a possibility of continuous improvement in the future.

LONGi is showcasing its 'world-record-holding' conceptual product 2681 at the event. It weighs 31.8 kg and has a size of 2278mm x 1134mm, based on 26.81% self-developed silicon heterojunction efficiency. It has a power generation of over 600W, according to the company. According to the company, it managed to transform laboratory data into a conceptual product within a 3-month timeframe.

Beginning of June 2023, the National Solar Energy Institute (INES) at the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and Italian solar company Enel Green Power (EGP) with its manufacturing arm 3Sun have announced a perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell conversion efficiency of 27.1% (see Another Tandem Solar Cell Efficiency Record).

At SNEC, as part of TaiyangNews & SNEC Solar Leadership Conversations, LONGi Founder and President Zhenguo Li provided details about the group's plans to venture into more geographies and also explore electrolyzers further (see SNEC Exclusive: LONGi President Interview).
