Key Takeaways
  • M-TEC has launched its ENERGY TOWER battery storage solution, scalable from 29 kWh up to 230.5 kWh

  • The solution is integrated with a hybrid inverter, available in power classes ranging from 20 kW to 50 kW

  • The intelligent flow of energy between PV, storage, and distribution is automatically managed by the integrated energy management system, ENERGY HERO

To reduce dependence on grid power and support decarbonization goals, a growing number of commercial and industrial (C&I) users, office buildings, and agricultural consumers are seeking robust hybrid energy storage solutions. These solutions typically integrate sufficient storage capacity, a hybrid inverter, and photovoltaic (PV) installations.

In response to this demand, M-TEC – an Austrian provider of PV inverters and energy storage solutions – has launched its latest modular battery storage system under its ENERGY TOWER brand. This solution combines a scalable battery module and a hybrid inverter, and can be integrated with both existing and new (greenfield) rooftop PV installations.

Battery Module

The ENERGY TOWER’s storage system is scalable from 7 to 10 battery modules, offering a total energy storage capacity between 32.2 kWh and 46 kWh. Usable capacity ranges from 29 kWh to 41.5 kWh, based on a maximum depth of discharge (DoD) of 90%. Additionally, by connecting up to 5 towers in parallel, total storage capacity can be scaled to 230.5 kWh.

The system is powered by storage technology developed by Austrian high-tech firm MIBA, with full system integration, including inverter technology and the ENERGY HERO energy management platform, provided by M-TEC.

According to M-TEC, its battery management system (BMS) features both active and passive balancing, ensuring uniform charging and discharging across all battery cells and contributing to an overall battery efficiency of over 95%.

Hybrid Inverter

The hybrid inverter, which acts as the ENERGY TOWER’s energy conversion core, is available in 4 power classes: 20, 30, 40, and 50 kW. The 20 kW model is configured with 2 MPPT channels, while the other 3 models feature 4 MPPT channels for enhanced solar input optimization.

To ensure uninterrupted power supply during outages, the inverter supports emergency load backup, along with additional features such as PV recharging, island mode operation, and black start capability, M-TEC noted.

Energy Management System (EMS)

At the heart of the ENERGY TOWER’s smart functionality is the ENERGY HERO energy management system. This EMS enables automated energy distribution by intelligently managing connected PV systems, storage units, heat pumps, and EV charging stations. It further enhances self-consumption, balances energy storage, and smooths out peak load demand.

The new ENERGY TOWER is set to debut at EM-Power Europe, taking place from May 7–9.

M-TEC’s CTO, Peter Huemer, commented: “The ENERGY TOWER is a clever, scalable solution for anyone who wants to get more out of their PV system—whether for self-consumption optimization, emergency power supply, or intelligent load management. The new storage system perfectly complements our modular platform.”
