Megasol now supplies all LEVEL Up roof-integrated PV modules with glare-control glass as standard
The company’s proprietary ZRM+ microstructured glass diffuses reflected sunlight to reduce glare
LEVEL Up combines frameless glass-glass modules and a power density above 200 W/m²
Switzerland-based solar module manufacturer and building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) solutions provider Megasol has made low-glare glass standard across its LEVEL Up roof-integrated PV system. Its proprietary Zero Reflect Matt+ (ZRM+) microstructured surface diffuses reflected sunlight to reduce glare, particularly at unfavorable sun angles.
The company says LEVEL Up is the first fully integrated solar roof system with independently assessed glare-control performance as standard. It adds that all modules used in the system will now feature ZRM+, replacing the previous standard-glass versions at no additional cost. Making ZRM+ standard across the product range eliminates the need for a separate low-glare variant, simplifying product selection and project planning, says Megasol.
LEVEL Up is a full-surface BIPV system in which the PV modules replace conventional roofing materials such as tiles or slate. Megasol said demand for glare control has been strong for projects in densely populated areas, near transport routes and in locations subject to sensitive planning requirements.
“The exceptionally high demand for a glare-free LEVEL Up has convinced us that ZRM+ does not belong on the list of options, but should be the new standard,” said Markus Gisler, CEO of Megasol.
The company reports module luminance values of approximately 3,000 to 18,000 cd/m² under steeply incident sunlight, which it compares with clay roof tiles. At an incidence angle of 70°, the measured value was approximately 29,000 cd/m², remaining below the company’s stated critical glare threshold of 50,000 cd/m².
The textured glass also gives the modules a uniform, deep-matt appearance and makes the underlying solar cell structure less visible. The system uses frameless glass-glass modules and offers a power density exceeding 200 W/m².
