  • Singulus says its new coating machine can improve the solar cell efficiency by up to 1%
  • It works on passivation of the cut edges of solar cells thereby boosting overall module efficiency
  • The machine is suitable for various cell and cut formats and can be integrated into existing cell and module lines, it adds

German solar PV equipment manufacturer Singulus Technologies has unveiled a new coating machine for the passivation of the cut edges of solar cells called Generis Passivated Edge Technology or PET, claiming it improves the cell efficiency by up to 1%.

It was developed by the company to improve efficiency in the processing of half-cell, multi-cell and shingle cells since edge passivation improves efficiency by minimizing ‘unwanted effects’ at the cut edges.

Global solar industry of late is increasingly using half-cell and shingle configurations for their ability to boost module efficiency.

Singulus says the new machine is suitable for various cell and cut formats and can be integrated into existing cell and module lines.

“The machine can process half cells, multiple cells and also cell strips (shingle cells) after cutting. Our unique tray design allows processing of thousands of cell parts per tray with high packing density. In the process, the passivation layers are precisely applied to the cut edges without undesirable effects on the cell surfaces,” said Singulus’ CEO Dr -Ing Stefan Rinck.

The company plans to exhibit the product at next week’s Intersolar Europe trade show in Munich, Germany.

TaiyangNews will hold a Virtual Conference on Global PV System Technology Trends H1/2023 on June 27 and 28, 2023 to discuss takeaways from the world’s largest solar trade shows SNEC Shanghai and Intersolar Munich. Register for the same for free here.
